What NOT to Do After Getting Lash Extensions?
P
rotect your lashes. Preserve your look. Here’s what to avoid for long-lasting glam.
You just invested in a gorgeous set of lash extensions and here comes the selfies! But to keep them looking full, fluffy, and flawless, aftercare is everything.
At Winked Studio, we’re all about setting you up for success. Here are the top lash-damaging habits to avoid so your lashes stay on point between fills.
🚫 1. Sleeping on Your Face
Crushing your lashes against a pillow overnight can cause premature shedding, kinks, and twisted extensions.
Do this instead:
- Try sleeping on your back
- Use a silk or satin pillowcase (gentler on lashes and skin)
🚫 2. Using Oil-Based Products
Oil is the enemy of lash adhesive. Makeup removers, cleansers, and even moisturizers that contain oil can break down the bond—fast.
Check your labels for:
- Mineral oil
- Coconut oil
- Jojoba oil (yes, even the “natural” stuff)
Do this instead:
- Use oil-free makeup remover
- Ask us for lash-safe cleanser recommendations
🚫 3. Wearing Mascara on Your Extensions
Especially on volume or hybrid sets, mascara can clump fans together and weaken the adhesive.
Do this instead:
- Skip the mascara (you won’t need it!)
🚫 4. Skipping Lash Cleanses
Clean lashes = better retention. Dirt, oils, and makeup buildup weaken your lash line and increase risk of irritation or infections.
Do this instead:
- Use a gentle lash cleanser 2–3 times a week
- Clean daily if you wear makeup
🚫 5. Rubbing or Picking at Your Lashes
We know—they look so good it’s tempting to touch. But constant rubbing or pulling can lead to lash loss and even damage your natural lashes.
Do this instead:
- Gently pat your eyes if itchy
- Use a lash wand to brush and fluff daily
🚫 6. Skipping Your Fills
Even perfect aftercare won’t stop natural shedding. Waiting too long between fills means more gaps, uneven lashes, and ultimately, needing a full set again.
Do this instead:
- Book fills every 2–3 weeks
- Set your next appointment before you leave the studio
